Mamblog is a user blog component that allows you to run a page where users can register and get their own blog page where they can add new blog entries without having to be editors.

Requirements

Mamblog is a component for Mambo 4.5.2.3 and Joomla 1.0.x
Mamblog requires PHP4 or above.

If you like Mamblog, please rate it!

Current functionality

  • Users can create a new blog item.
  • Users can edit their own blog items.
  • Items can be set to published, unpublished or archived.
  • Archived items won't be listed in the main listing when showing blogs from the user, but only as linked titles when viewing a users archived blogs.
  • Some appearence properties can be set, among these: text color, background color, border width (sets a border around the text), border color etc. Each of these can be disallowed in the configuration for the component.
  • Item can be set to appear on the "frontpage", which means the item will show up on the frontpage of the site. This is configurable.
  • Users can set if they want others to be able to comment on the blog item as well as setting if the comments should be publically shown. N.B. No internal comment system available at this moment.
  • It is possible to list a single blog item, all published blogs by a user, all archived blogs from a user, all blogs on a given date, all blogs set to be shown on the frontpage and all blogs by all users. All of these lists conform to show only the amount of complete items and linked items that has been set by the admin, just as the Mambo frontpage.
  • The admin can define which type of blogs should be shown on the blog frontpage.
  • The script uses the content table in Mambo for all data.
  • Completely automatical installation.
  • Configurable whether new blog items need to be admin approved before shown on the site.
  • Users can archive and unpublish their blogs.
  • When adding/editing a blog item the user can set access restrictions for who can read the blog. Public, Members or Private.
  • The admin can configure which extra attributes of blogs users should be able to edit.
  • All config options changeable by an easy to use admin interface.
  • Admin configurable if all users or only special users should be able to edit/create blogs.
  • Multiple language files included: English, Swedish, Norwegian and Dutch.
  • AkoComments and ComboLITE/ComboMAX comment systems supported.
  • Supports all html editors supported by Mambo.
  • Users can delete their own blog entries.
  • User menu item to the users' own blog.
  • Supports SEF links on all frontend links.
  • Support for the SEF Advance script from Emir Sakic.

TODO

  • When viewing a blog item there should be some sort of TrackBack link. I will have to investigate this further.

Possible extras for the future:

  • A module to list the latest x blog items.
  • A module to list the newest bloggers.
  • Module to search bloggers.
  • Module to jump to the page of a given blogger.
  • Calendar module with links to all blogs of each day.
  • Latest blogs of a randomized user.
  • Let users create categories for their blogs.
  • Connect links to categories.
  • User selectable templates or preselected values for the colors etc.

TRACKBACK is important for blogging and it would be really cool to have that...would
give mamblog a kind of complete functionality. when do you think will
the feature be released?

Can any visitor register his own blog? Or some type of admin action needed? Are

Trackback might be added in v1.1, I haven't decided yet. It will not be
added for the 1.0 release which only will be bug fixes.

Are blog users = mambo users or not?

Yes, all users will automatically be able to have their own blog,
provided that they can reach the standard user menu in Mambo.

Guest (84.92.141.xxx) 2005-03-27 15:47:20

What's the time-frame for those added functionality points you raised on this
page?

Trackback is key for any blog - so is linking blogs to the 'event'
calendar module that currently exists for Mambo CMS.

How about auto-archiving
for a given month, like what most blogs do, rather than simply having to
"force archive" the blogs? I rather, for instance, be able to display a
list of the current month's blogs or that of a specific month - rather than all
or the archived ones? Thoughts???

Is it possible to configure Mamblog so entries do not get "tiled" over
the page but rather get listed vertically in date-order sequence? Having new
entries scattered over the page is kind of annoying.

Is it possible to do
something like set a filter on the blog so a reader can view only the entries of
a single, selected author?

Guest (24.98.158.xxx) 2005-06-23 16:41:48

Hi, mamblog seems very promising. I have installed it with mambo 4.5.2 and
there seems to be some problems. In IE user cannot type in the wysiwyg area.
In Firefox and Netscape everytime you type in the wysiwyg area it flickers and
identical wysiwyg above it. Has anyone else experienced this? By the way I
like how you incorporated it with mambo's blog. Wishlist, want I am looking for
is a blog page I can furnish for my members. Like xanga or google's blogger.
That would be neat. Anyhow, nice job with your mamblog.
Nice job.
Guest (82.92.148.xxx) 2005-07-09 10:04:40

It's a nice component. Thanx

Now lets wait for a 4.5.2 version for

How about a Momblog Category?

It would be great to be able to pick a category when creating a new blog entry.

Guest (76.170.210.xxx) 2006-10-31 06:33:31

The major issue with it is that it won't work. Trying to use it with Community
Builder in Joomla 1.0x is making a headache. It looks like it works, but when
you try to save a new blog entry, nothing happens. No posting, nothing.
Something's not right with this because it's a fresh install, no changes made
anywhere.

What I can also recommend is to make it a bit easier for it to
display using %'s instead of pixels. Enough with the pats on the backs, let's
get some real support on this.
Cute...
Guest (76.170.210.xxx) 2006-10-31 06:50:16

It had to do with OpenSEF. Something about the way the links are called from
within this app is broken when OpenSEF is used. I'm sure there's a work around,
but still. At least it's working now. That's all that matters. Disregard my
negative post.

Glad to see you have picked this up again!
Regarding the module 'to display
newest blog items', I have enhanced the core joomla last news items and most
popular items modules so they accept section filtering. These are in use with
mamblog on the joomlapolis.com site.
Good job.

Version difference?
Steven Trooster (145.99.177.xxx) 2006-11-20 20:48:04

When I download this 1.0 version I get a zip-file dated oktober 31 2005. In the
content I can't spot any difference with the old 1.0b vesion. The changes.txt
file dates from oktober 30 2005. Either I'm missing something here or nothing is
new.
admin (SAdministrator) 2006-11-20 21:14:34

The file from october 31, 2005 is the latest version available. It has a lot of
changes from the older v1.0 RC2. There has never been a v1.0b, there were a few
betas before the Release Candidates, but the were named "beta1",
"beta2" and so on.

JCE compatibility
admin (SAdministrator) 2006-11-26 22:46:13

IT should definately work with JCE, I have confirmed users running that editor.
If you have any problems, would you mind reporting them on the bug tracker?

You
might also want to look at the FAQ and in the Support Forum here on the site for
more information.

Misunderstanding in ACCESS_USE
Marcus (193.158.99.xxx) 2007-01-16 09:57:26

Well, following text should be rephrased since user are very confused about this
option:

DEFINE('_ACCESS_USER', 'Creator and Admins only');

instead
of

DEFINE('_ACCESS_USER', 'none');

Because users might think that the article
is confidential and cannot be read be an admin. Since Mamblog uses
"Special" attributes for this "Creator and Special Users" is
correct (I use Admins since a "normal" user does not know anything about
Joomla's right management).
You are correct

I know this has been mentioned, but I thought I would mention it again. The
ability to post images is not present within mamblog (despite the option

Text formatting issues
Frederic (206.248.135.xxx) 2008-01-13 07:12:03

Hello,

It's a headache for me but maybe someone knows the answer.

For some
reason, when we go to the blog component, all the texts appear without
formatting and with no linebreak.

Same thing if we click on "list all
entries"

However when we click on a title, then we see one single article
and it is well formatted. I have tested with 3 different joomla templates and i
get the same problem. Is it normal ? It's kinda uggly.

Because of that, i
would prefer to get only a list of the titles + date and authors when we list
all entries. Which php file should I modify in order to do that ? Or is there
any way to do that ?

THank you .
